This book was written as an introduction to Intel microprocessors and IBM PC architectures. It also covers the fundamentals of microprocessor- and PC-based electronic systems, together with PC-based control and data-acquisition applications.
The book begins with the fundamental concepts of microprocessor-based systems and uses the Intel 8085A as an example for explaining 8-bit microprocessor architecture and operation. It then presents the hardware and software architecture of the Intel x86 family, including 8086/8088, 80286, 80386 and 80486 processors, followed by IBM PC architecture, system buses, input/output, control and data acquisition, parallel and serial ports, and the Pentium family.
